The Origin of Fast Food Restaurants

Fast food is actually given this name because it can be made very quickly. It is a need for different civilizations from ancient time. The food present in these places is usually cooked in advance and kept hot to serve when a customer places an order. A lot of these restaurants are a part of a specific chain which uses standard ingredients to prepare the food with almost similar taste. It is because the food that they use is produced in a massive amount in a single factory where different flavors are added to give them a same delightful taste.  They are generally present in the trafficked area where customers can approach easily. Some of them offer dining facilities where you can quickly eat the food while others have a takeaway facility. The taverns and coffee house were considered as the famous gathering places in the 17th century.

White Castle is actually considered as the first fast food restaurant in America. It was built in the year 1921 which is used to sell hamburgers.  The owners of this fast food were Billy Ingram and Walter Anderson. They work hard on their restaurant by having a fascinating painting on the building to grab the attention of customers. This restaurant has a positive impact on the overall development of the fast food business. They are quite well known for their small square hamburgers because they run promotional ads in the newspapers. In the 1940s, they ran promotional ads in local newspapers of America by having coupons offering five burgers for only ten cents. The victory of this fast food business led to numerous followers who copied the typical architecture of its building and also using a similar name to perplex the customers.

The in-n-out burger was introduced in the year 1948. Their menu includes burgers and French fries which are made from fresh ingredients. They don’t keep freezers to store food because they ship it on a regular basis. The standard style of their burger contains tomato, hand-leafed lettuce and spread. They use fresh meat in all the branches are very strict on quality control.

Taco Bell was founded by Glenn Bell in the year 1948 in California. They have around 7,000 restaurants in which they serve more than 2 billion customers in a year. This fast food chain was taken over by Pepsi-Co in 1978, and its name was also changed to yum! Brands.

McDonald’s, which is considered as the biggest fast-food chain was introduced in 1948. The owner of this fast-food chain is Ray Kroc. He came with the vision to build a restaurant system that would be celebrated for serving food of consistently top quality and consistent way of preparation.

This was the time when burgers are usually sold at fairs, circuses and lunch counters. Today, they have their presence in around 126 countries with 31,000 restaurants all over the world. In terms of revenue McDonald’s is considered as the number one restaurant chain. They provide services to over 69 million customers in a single day and are famous for their hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, chicken products, milkshakes, desserts and wraps

In 1953, two American businessmen, Keith J. Kramer and his wife’s uncle Matthew Burns, started an Insta-Burger King which is a fast food restaurant use to made hamburgers. They were so victorious with this franchise, and in the year 1967, they had above 250 outlets in the United States that were sold to the Pillsbury Company. This food chain is considered the second biggest chain of hamburger in fast food restaurants.

The most visible change came in 1978 when Burger King hired McDonald’s executive Donald N. Smith to assist in restoring the company. He initiated a reform of commercial business practices at all levels of burger king by updating franchise agreements, adding more items in the menu, and the new structure of the building to regulate the formation of the company.

Frederick “Fred” DeLuca in the year 1968 started a sandwich shop called “Pete’s Super Submarines” in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The name of this famous shop was changed later to the subway that is a well-known submarine sandwich chain nowadays with over 44,000 outlets worldwide.

 

Fred worked hard on running his business, and he realized the significance of serving a well-made, high-class product by giving outstanding customer service, low operating costs and good locations. These qualities become the foundation of subway success all over the world.

Wendy’s was introduced in the year 1969 by Dave Thomas. It is considered as third most massive hamburgers fast food chain all around the world with more than 6,500 locations. The menu of this fast food contains chicken sandwiches, French fries, burgers and the signature frosty.

Hamburgers are not the only option nowadays because there is a wide range of items including fish and chips, sandwiches, French fries fried chicken, nuggets, pizza, hot dogs and many more are included in the menu list.
